Summer Adventures

In every girls life; there’s a boy she’ll never forget and a summer where it all began.

“What do you want to do next?” Tony asked as they walked hand in hand along the wet sand.

“Let’s climb across those rocks. I’ll race you to the end.”

“No way. It’s too dangerous to race across the jagged slippery rocks!”

“For who, you or me because I’m a girrrl?” Susan challenged with a sideways glance delivering her best What’chu talkin’ ’bout, Willis scrunched up face.

Pretending to think about it, Tony made sure his keys were deep in his pocket, and replied, “Both. Race you to the rocks!” Leaving her stunned momentarily, but she recovered quickly, like she always did, and chased after him in long strides. It seconds she was by his side, and with a huge smile she passed him up and beat him to the rocks. It was a summer full of new adventures and discoveries. A the beginning of a young love and a lifetime of friendship to come.

“Honey, what are you thinking about?” Tony asked, as he handed a cup of tea to Susan.

“Summer days at the beach and you,” she replied as she lifted the corner of the blanket for him to slide in next to her.

Thank goodness for Free Write Friday prompts and Free Sunday mornings to write. This week our inspirer Kellie Elmore provided us with a quote challenge.   This is a picture of Corona Del Mar, my second favorite beach, and is where I spent much of my time growing up. The beach is best known in the movies for it’s Pirate Cove, which is not really visible in this picture, but I wanted you to see the rock pier in the distance that is loads of fun to climb.

“Freethinkers are those who are willing to use their minds without prejudice and without fearing to understand things that clash with their own customs, privileges, or beliefs. This state of mind is not common, but it is essential for right thinking…”

I could read and quote Tolstoy all day, but this is all for now as it’s time to be productive.  Enjoy your day and I’ll be back with a creative writing post later this evening, hopefully.

Perseverant Purpose

A man should conceive of a legitimate purpose in his heart, and set out to accomplish it. He should make this purpose the centralizing point of his thoughts. It may take the form of a spiritual ideal, or it may be a worldly object, according to his nature at the time being; but whichever it is, he should steadily focus his thought forces upon the object which he has set before him. He should make this purpose his supreme duty, and should devote himself to its attainment, not allowing his thoughts to wander away into ephemeral fancies, longings, and imaginings. This is the royal road to self-control and true concentration of thought. Even if he fails again and again to accomplish his purpose (as he necessarily must until weakness is overcome), the strength of character gained will be the measure of his true success, and this will form a new starting point for future power and triumph. —James Allen
