Salon Saloon

She tries to greet every patron
With a smile of appreciation
Masking the standing situation
Of how badly her feet are aching
Instead she thinks of her creations
And an upcoming vacation

It’s Friday afternoon
Every seat in the room is nearly taken
Rows of women line the floor
Manning their stations
Mixing obnoxious concoctions
To apply with conversation

Chemicals and tools expertly used
Loyal ones return for the abuse
She helps consumer’s meet their needs
Hustling them in and out
With relative speed and ease
Looking the way they aspired to be

Cutting edge styles to desired lengths
One in the washer, under dryer and waiting
Tonight there’ll be no breaks
Edward Scissorhands fly through the air
On autopilot, parting and splitting hairs
Without any undo fanfare

Clippings quickly fall and gather around
To hear the latest talk of the town
Business here is alive and well
Everyone who comes has a story to tell
She listens and is genuinely interested
With all who pay her a routine visit

Last weekend I meet with John Brantingham and picked up his book, The Gift of Form, which I took with me to the hairdresser last night to read. About 20 pages in I came across an Observation Exercise and decided to give a try.  As a result, Leticia, who I’ve been seeing for over a decade fell victim to my words at play.
