Turn Up the Heat

Welcoming the first night’s evening cold
Then trying to breathe with plugged nose
Eight long, hot summer months collecting
Dog hair, dust, lent and God knows what
A burning stench blows out furnace ducts
Next year’s goal; open windows expecting
