City Streets ~ #OctPoWriMo 3 of 31

Secrets roam our city streets
No one really wants to know
Unfortunate stories go untold
Struggling to meet basic needs

Stands on corners just to eat
Holding up a feeble sign
Hoping that someone will be kind
Unable to beat the scorching heat

Countless people pass on by
Pretending as if they’re not there
All the while avoiding pleading stare
Begs to a god and wonders why

Frostbitten toes from the bitter cold
Piecing together woolen threads
Trading warmth for a chunk of bread
Treating necessities as if gold

Living on the streets grows old
No one is above circumstance
So do what you can to give a chance
To those in need, it takes its toll
